Beauty hacks

Let’s be honest, lockdown sucks. The sun is shining and we are stuck inside into the colours of the sofa without our full coverage foundation and glowing highlight. But this isolation period could be the perfect opportunity for us to try out those beauty products that have being lying around, unloved and deserted.

And maybe, just maybe, those beauty products will become a prominent part of our skincare/beauty routine during this lockdown. Even if its just to lay on the couch, with the biggest bowl of tortilla chips, binging everything on Netflix.

The humble face mist

I don’t know about you, but when I wake up in the morning, I feel dead inside. My eyes can barely open; I’m so comfy I don’t want to move and those episodes of ‘Friends’ are just calling my name. Having a face mist by my side has been my saviour. A light spritz in the morning completely wakes me up and makes me feel alive again. It not only revitalises my skin and gives it that much needed hydration, but it also revitalises me mentally.

I take a spritz of my face mist, take a deep breath and feel ready to tackle the next task of my day. I would recommend the ‘Botanical Lab Witch Hazel Mattifying Mist’ which is available at Superdrug for £4.99 – this is perfect if you are on a budget!

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

The key to happy skin is h. Whether you are in stuck indoors or outside doing your 30 minutes of exercise, our skin will love us if we say bye bye to those red blemishes, dryness and oiliness by applying that little bit moisture every day. Applying night and day can give your skin a real boost of energy as well as making you feel the best you possibly can in these unpredictable times.

SPF is a key ingredient needed to protect your skin from those UV rays (especially in the summer months), so remembering to look out for that little ‘SPF’ on the side of the jar is crucial. When you go into the kitchen for yet another snack or go out for a breath of fresh air you know that your skin is ready for anything thrown your way. As a teenager with problematic and unpredictable skin I happen to love the ‘Garnier Pure Active Anti-Blemish Soothing Moisturiser’ and ‘The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors’. Both are available at Boots online and in stores.

Glowing from within

There is only one type of product that can make me feel like Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala whilst I’m actually at home, in my dressing gown, trying to finish my homework. And that product is…highlighter. I don’t know what it is about it but it just makes me feel confident and beautiful when I look in the mirror and see that hypnotising glow.

A little bit on the cheek bones and cupid’s bow and I am ready for the day. Thank the lord for whoever thought of this genius product. E-commerce websites like ‘The Cut’ have a great selection of highlighters for all skin tones.

Lip balm is a MUST

It doesn’t matter how much lip gloss, lip liner or lipstick I wear I know that lips are delicate, thin and need to be protected.  The ‘Derm Review’ is an online blog that posts all things skincare and beauty.  Whilst reading an article on ‘Derm Review’ I discovered that the lips are extremely thin and sensitive. Since then I have used ‘Aquaphor Lip Repair’ and nothing else. It gives you an amazing shine, which personally, boosts my confidence to the heavens even on my down days during lockdown.

Hopefully through the good days and bad days during lockdown these hacks will help you feel yourself again. Who knows, bit of moisturiser, a dab of highlight and some lip balm could be a new trend…
